FGLL Major League

 Local Rules

Remember to have fun, no one likes to lose, but this is not win at all costs.  Please teach sportsmanship.  Coaches please remember to be a good example for your kids.  Coaches must agree on any changes to play before the game starts.

These are local rules for FGLL.  If not listed below, FGLL follows the current rules as outlined by Little League International.

  • Pre-Game discussion between coaches and umpire must take place 5 minutes before each game starts.  Make sure both coaches understand time limit prior to the game.
  • Home team will sit in the third base dugout.
  • 5 runs per inning or three outs, whichever comes first (except 6th inning unlimited runs).
  • Runners must slide on close plays by the umpire or be called out.
  • Mercy rule is 10 runs after 4 innings.
  • No leading off.  Runners may advance at their own risk when the ball crosses home plate or on overthrows.  The penalty for leaving the base early is to return to the previous base (they are not called out per Little League rule).
  • 8 players minimum are required to play a game.  Any less is forfeit.
  • Batter may run on dropped third strike if 1st is unoccupied and less than 2 outs.  If 2 outs may run on dropped third strike even if occupied.
  • Home team will provide base umpire.  Base umpire can borrow “umpire clicker” from the concession stand.  Please collect them from the side door.  The league may provide a base umpire for some games to be determined by the league and pending umpire availability.
  • Bat all kids in the lineup.  Only 9 on defense.  Free substitution.
  • Pitch count and score confirmed by each team every half inning.  Normally pitch count discrepancies are “split” in a restful manor, but ultimately decided by the home team.  All pitch count rules must be followed.  Refer to the LL rule book.  During scrimmages, pitchers may not pitch more than 1 inning.
  • Home team puts bases away and puts the base peg covers back on.  Lock the shed if last game.  Make sure bases are placed in the correct “bin” within the shed.  Clean all dugouts and make sure clean for the next game.
  • Your scheduled game time will determine your game time limit.  Do not start another inning with less than 10 minutes to the end of time limit.  Unless tied.  Play until winner is declared.  The time is determined by when the last out was made in the previous full inning.  For example, when the third out is made in the bottom of the inning.
  • No ties.  Any ties at the conclusion of the regular game will result in an extra innings.  International rules apply (1 out and previous out from inning before placed on 2nd base).
  •  A final score and pitch count shall be agreed to by both coaches and reported to the league director by the home team at the conclusion of the game.
  • All rain out games should be made up as quickly as possible.  Ideally within 2 weeks.  Coordinate with opposite coach and confirm field availability.
  • All games to be played as an official game per the game schedule (web site).  If one team does not show up, or does not have at least 8 players, it is declared a forfeit.  If a coach needs to change the date of a game, it must be done in advance of the scheduled game and must be rescheduled on the official schedule prior to game time.  For example, no “verbal agreements” as to when a game time will be made up.
  • Standings for the regular season will be used to seed players for a single elimination playoff tournament.  The seeding will be done by win-loss record.  Seeding on the web site is automatically done and is final.  Single elimination playoff tournament will be at the discretion of FGLL and may be altered, changed, or eliminated based on weather conditions, field availability or any other reason.
